Fall is here and so are all the fun activities that come with it. For Delaware Valley University, it means a time for their annual Harvest Fest and Ag Olympics. Alpha Gamma Rho’s Beta Psi Chapter cooked food for and participated in the games.
Brother Andrew Wernick, VNR Activities at Beta Psi Chapter, was one of four brothers who participated in the Ag Olympics, and helped coordinate the chapter’s involvement in cooking for the university’s Harvest Fest.
“Dean Sandlin (Dean of the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences) reached out to us because he was kind of in a tight spot,” Brother Wernick said. “Last year, the dining hall provided the meal, but this year, they did not. So, he reached out to us [the chapter], and we said, ‘Sure, we'll do it.’”
Brother Wernick said the chapter spent nearly eight hours cooking 200 pounds of wings and 200 burgers for those who attended Harvest Fest. He noted that brothers took turns cooking as they had time during the day after classes and work. Brother Wernick said that cooking for this event was also a great bonding experience for the brothers.
“Anytime you have the guys together for cooking, some music and just hanging out, it's going to be a good time,” he said.
Brother Wernick said there were also hayrides and a pumpkin patch for attendees to pick pumpkins from.
To add to the bonding time, the four brothers who participated in the Ag Olympics event, Jacob Hillegass, David (DJ) Porsche, Neil Miller and Brother Wernick, worked together and won the Ag Olympics event. Some of the events they did were an egg toss, tractor pull, stacking square hay bales and rolling round hay bales.
Brother Wernick said the University’s Harvest Fest and Ag Olympics had great turnouts. Beta Psi Chapter was also able to put out an information table to help share more about the chapter and what Alpha Gamma Rho can do for those who join.
