Lambda Chapter at the University of Minnesota held their Lambda Scholarship Day March 29 where they gave out $50,400 in scholarships to brothers and other students that meet the requirements.

Brothers, their families, prospective members and incoming freshmen gathered at the Lambda Chapter House for a morning program, a tour of the house, interviews and lunch for the applicants.

After lunch, the chapter held their scholarship program that awarded various scholarships to 20 young men. The scholarships consist of leadership scholarships, academic scholarships, endowed leadership award scholarships and memorial scholarships.

Brother Keith Wolf of Lambda Chapter said $9,000 was given to recipients of leadership scholarships. Another $9,700 was given for academic scholarships. The Endowed Leadership Award Scholarships totaled $7,700 and recipients’ names were inscribed on plaques at the chapter house.

The chapter gives out three memorial scholarships that commemorate three passed brothers of Lambda Chapter, Brother Nick Lilleberg, Brother Karson Janssen and Brother Bruce Froyum. These scholarships highlight these brothers as legacy members and their impacts on the chapter. Each award is directly funded by their families, which gave out $24,000 to recipients.

“The Lambda alumni chapter is proud to provide financial support to our Lambda collegiate brothers as they advance through their education, accomplish personal development and move toward professional success,” Brother Wolf said.

Brothers Brennir Peterson and Brady Gille both received the Craig L. Fields Leadership Award, which is one of the several scholarships Lambda Chapter gave out March 29.

Brother Wolf explained that the AGR Lambda Chapter Educational Foundation has built an investment portfolio that supports these scholarships and awards, as well as educational training provided by the AGR Home Office such as Leadership Seminars and Recruitment Schools. The investments also fund etiquette training and dinners hosted by the Lambda Chapter House Mother, Teri Gustafson.

"Being awarded a scholarship from Alpha Gamma Rho Lambda Chapter’s Educational Foundation is an incredible honor; it reflects the trust our Brotherhood places in us as future leaders and reinforces the value of hard work, academic dedication, and a lifelong commitment to agriculture and Alpha Gamma Rho,” Brother Brady Gille said.

Brother Gille received three different scholarships at the Lambda Chapter Scholarship Program.

Brother Wolf said this was the largest payout for scholarships by the Lambda Chapter Educational Foundation. He gave credit to the generosity of the families and friends who donated scholarships to memorial scholarships. He also said that the scholarship program is further supported by the endowed leadership awards provided by Brother Stuart Immer and Brother Craig Fields.

The Lambda Chapter’s scholarship program is just one of many ways chapters can support, not just brothers, but all young men pursuing higher education. If chapters would like to begin scholarship programs for their own chapters, they should contact the Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho at 816-891-9200 ext. 121.
