Alpha Nu Chapter at the University of Connecticut is working to Make Better Men by participating in campus agricultural events and strengthening its bonds with the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources.
Five brothers participated and one brother was a herdsman in the UConn Dairy Show hosted by the Dairy Club on campus. The chapter also was a sponsor for the event, which allowed them to have their own class in the show.
Brother Joseph Caron, VNR-Finance for the Alpha Nu Chapter, was one of the five participants from the chapter.
“It was just a great way to get some more exposure for our chapter and to show that we are passionate about helping out the School of Agriculture and the associated clubs,” he said.
The chapter shared in an Instagram post that Brother Jacob Niemczyk and Brother Caron placed in the event. Brother Niemczyk placed third overall in the Intermediate Class and first in the Alpha Gamma Rho Class. Brother Caron placed second in the AGR Class.
Brother Caron said the day was cold and rainy, but Brother Jake Darras who was the herdsman from the chapter, helped to keep the event upbeat and keep people engaged with the event.

He said some of the brothers, including himself, had participated in the Dairy Show in the last few years. They decided to engage more with the event to represent AGR on campus and support the clubs and organizations that support the core values of Alpha Gamma Rho. He also noted that it was a great way to give back to their local agricultural communities.
“We truly believe that to Making Better Men, we need to be as closely related and active within our agricultural realm at UConn as we can,” Brother Caron said.
He noted that by participating in campus agriculture events, brothers were gaining connections within the industry and growing their skillsets, while having fun and supporting others.
“If we think about the future of agriculture, we need strong individuals who can think for themselves and think as a group,” Brother Caron said. “By participating in these events, we are training, even if we don't know it right now.”
He elaborated that these events allow brothers to expand their skills in communication, learn how to work together and brow their teamwork skills. He emphasized that these events keep brothers curious and wanting to learn more about agriculture.
“I think the biggest thing about being an AGR brother is participating and trying things out of your comfort zone,” he said.
Brother Caron said he looks forward to participating in the Dairy Club’s future shows throughout his college career. He also said he hopes to see the chapter become more active and aim for 100% participation in activities outside of the classroom from brothers in some capacity. He said Alpha Nu Chapter will not be satisfied until they reach the level of full participation.
Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity urges its members to be involved on their campuses and in their communities in any way they can. If your chapter has been active in its communities, share your stories with the Alpha Gamma Rho Home Office here or the Alpha Gamma Rho website under News.
