Iowa State alumnus Steve Hanson named AGR Grand President Award Winner3/5/12 3:26 AM
CAVE CREEK, Ariz. – March 5, 2012 – Steve Hanson is one of four individuals selected to receive the Alpha Gamma Rho Grand President's Award. He was honored with the award at the 2012 AGR Leadership Seminar in Pittsburgh, Pa. on March 3. His efforts consistent with the AGR Promise and Values qualified him for this award.
Hanson is owner and president of GRIP IDEAS in Cave Creek, Ariz. GRIP IDEAS is a marketing, branding and business development agency focused in the nutrition, food and agriculture industries. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in public service and administration in agriculture from Iowa State University.
Hanson has been an active member of his community serving as a volunteer at his daughter's school, a volunteer/sponsor for the Cave Creek Fiesta Days Rodeo and as a volunteer/sponsor for Phoenix Youth at Risk Golf Tournament. He has remained involved with Iowa State University, serving as a member of ISU's Alumni Board of Directors for the College of Agriculture and as an alumni ambassador. In addition, he has served several appointments on respective committees for the Iowa 4-H Foundation and has been active in the National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA), serving Iowa NAMA's Executive Committee as treasurer.
He has received numerous honors and recognitions since finishing his degree at Iowa State. In 2000, Hanson was named Des Moines Business Record "Up and Comer" and Lexington Who's Who Among Executives and Professionals, among many other awards, and he has authored a number of articles that have been featured in print and online publications. He also published and edited two books.
His contributions to agriculture are evident through his appearances at food and nutrition industry seminars where he is frequently asked to share his unique marketing outlook. In August 2011, he spent several weeks in China conducting seminars about effective marketing tools and how to expand business internationally. He has been an integral part of many key product launches in the food, nutrition and agriculture industry. He has also spoken at numerous 4-H and FFA banquets, youth conferences and college career days.
Hanson has remained involved with AGR in a number or capacities. From 1996 until 2003, he served as Regional Vice President, North Central and SICKLE & SHEAF Contributing Editor. He presented multiple workshops at six Leadership Seminars between 1998 and 2002. He was also part of the Executive Branding Team in 2008 and the Second Century Taskforce in 1999.
Administered and nominated by a selection committee the Grand President's Award is awarded by AGR for business excellence and professional achievement. It is awarded to specific fraternity alumni age 40 or under who have achieved remarkable success in their professional careers. This award demonstrates an honorable acknowledgement of Hanson's leadership, professionalism and knowledge of his industry.
