• Middle Tennessee State chapter house flooded due to pipe burst

  • KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dec. 16, 2010 – As temperatures dropped below freezing in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Monday night, a sprinkler pipe in Beta Theta chapter’s attic burst, drenching a large majority of the house. Campus police and the fire department arrived on the scene to cut off the water flow. The water flooded in for approximately 40 minutes before being shut off.

According to Beta Theta alumnus Russ Carmichael, the house has suffered extensive damage. At a minimum, insulation, drywall and flooring in a large portion of the house will likely need to be replaced. The ceiling of the bedroom located directly beneath the burst pipe had fallen in as a result of the pressure from the water leak. The Fraternity and undergraduates are both coping with damaged property.

While specific details are still being sorted out, the chapter is searching for temporary housing for the displaced brothers. The chapter hopes the house will be repaired soon enough for brothers to move back in at the beginning of the spring semester.

With winter break right around the corner, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind our chapters of proper procedure to ensure a safe and hassle-free return to your chapter houses next semester. This risk management tool can be viewed by clicking here.
