  • L. Gene Lemon

    Gene Lemon, born in Davenport, Iowa, holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics and a bachelor of laws from the University of Illinois.  He is President of J&CL, Inc., a family farming and investing company at Aledo, Ill., owning and operating a 1700 acre corn and soybean business.

     

    He joined Armour and Company in 1969, moving to The Greyhound Corporation (later to become The Dial Corp and more recently Viad Corp) as assistant general counsel in 1972, becoming general counsel in 1977, vice president and general counsel in 1979, vice president-administration in 1996, serving on various management committees of Viad, until retiring January 1, 1999.  Lemon also served as general counsel to Armour and Company.  He formerly was assistant general counsel for the American Farm Bureau Federation and affiliated companies.

     

    Lemon is a member of the American Bar Association and formerly served on its Commission on Homelessness and Poverty, a member of the Association of General Counsel, State Bar of Arizona, and Maricopa County Bar Association. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association, is a Commissioner on the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, and has served as President of the Phoenix Art Museum, as a member of the Board of Trustees, and currently is on the Operations Committee. He formerly was a member of the Board of Directors of The Finova Group Inc. (NYSE, previously known as GFC Financial Corporation), the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, the Food & Drug Law Institute, the Civil Rules Study Committee for Maricopa County Superior Court, and the International Bar Association.  He also was a member of the Board of Directors of Phoenix Children's Hospital for 12 years and served a term as its Chairman.

     

    Lemon has been very active in Alpha Gamma Rho, serving as Legal Counsel since 1968, as Grand President 1974-76, and on various committees, most recently as Chairman of the Educational Foundation’s Century Two Capital Campaign for AGR.
