Iowa State alumnus named Grand President Award winner
SHEFFIELD, Iowa – Feb. 4, 2011 – John Latham is one of four individuals selected to receive the Alpha Gamma Rho Grand President’s Award. He will be honored with the award at 2011 AGR Leadership Seminar in Fort Worth, Texas which will take place Feb. 18-19. His efforts consistent with the AGR Promise and Values qualified him for this award.Latham is president of Latham Hi-Tech Hybrids, Inc. in Alexander, Iowa. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University.
Latham has been very involved within his community. In 2008 he served as president of his church’s congregation. The following year, he was a member of the church’s call committee to help bring in a new pastor. He has helped raise thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society through sponsorship of their local Relay for Life. He and his family are key sponsors of Sheffield’s Oktoberfest, which raises money for Sheffield’s little league programs, and are also heavily involved with the sponsorship of Hampton’s new aquatic center.
His contributions to agriculture are evident through Latham’s Seed 2 Soil® process. Using this method, his company has been able to recommend to their customers the right seed product and trait technology for the right soil type. As an independent company with access to all corn and soybean technologies offered in the marketplace, Latham is able to help farmers find which technology is right to maximize the income of their farming operation.
Latham has remained involved with AGR through the Eta Chapter Alumni Corporation. He was a member of the alumni board from 2001 until 2003. In 2003 he served as president of both the Eta Chapter Alumni Corporation and the Eta Chapter Educational Foundation.
Administered and nominated by a selection committee the Grand President’s Award is awarded by AGR for business excellence and professional achievement. It is awarded to specific fraternity alumni age 40 or under who have achieved remarkable success in their professional careers. This award demonstrates an honorable acknowledgement of Latham’s leadership, professionalism and knowledge of his industry.
